The Best Country Music on Bandcamp, May 2024

On There’s Always A Song, the Kentucky singer-songwriter enlists some pals—S.G. Goodman, Amanda Shires, Margo Price—in an eight-pack of covers of tunes written by bluegrass and old-time icons such as Jean Ritchie, Ralph Stanley, The Carter Family, Bill Monroe, Hazel Dickens, and Doc Watson. In each and every case, Waldon gives the song some modern sheen while also paying it the respect it deserves. Her take on Watson’s elegiac “Your Lone Journey” is especially stunning.
